President Obama nominates UCSC alumnus as NEH chair

President Obama announced today his intent to nominate UC Santa Cruz alumnus Dr. William “Bro” Adams as Chairman of the National Endowment for the Humanities. Adams earned his Ph.D. from UC Santa Cruz in the History of Consciousness program, after receiving a B.A in philosophy from Colorado College.

UCSC Awarded Three NEH Grants for Humanities Projects

UC Santa Cruz has received three grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) to support humanities projects in the Literature Department. The campus awards are part of $33 million in grants for 173 humanities projects that the NEH has funded this year.

NEH Receives $145 Million from House in H.R. 1 Vote

In response to possible cuts to the National Endowment for the Humanities, advocates sent more than 5,500 emails urging Members of Congress to support the NEH and oppose any amendments to further reduce funding to the agency. HR1, passed on February 19th, provided NEH with $145 million for FY 2011.
