New literary magazine inspired by UCSC past and present

“For some time there was a much loved and collected literary magazine associated with the University of California at Santa Cruz called kayak run by legendary editor George Hitchcock. After nineteen years and sixty-four issues the publication ended in 1989. A new boat is leaving the harbor, with a style unique in the sea of literary magazines. Catamaran Literary Reader is a racing boat run by a crew, and together we are able to sail to places on the open sea of creativity we couldn’t reach with a single paddle.”

So notes founding editor Catherine Segurson in the opening pages of the inaugural issue of Catamaran—a brand new literary magazine headquartered in the new Tannery Arts Center in downtown Santa Cruz.

Beautifully and elegantly designed with an impressive array of fiction, creative nonfiction, poetry and art, the magazine will come out quarterly, focusing on themes of the environment, artistic spirit, innovation, and freedom.
