Humanities Research Funding Opportunities

The Institute for Humanities Research serves as a laboratory for theorizing and implementing new visions of the Humanities via faculty research projects, graduate and undergraduate fellowships and training, and public humanities programs. We provide crucial support to faculty and students at every stage of the research process. As the designated UC Santa Cruz Humanities Center, the IHR is part of the University of California systemwide Humanities Network and is able to leverage the human and intellectual resources of the finest public university system in the world.

Humanities Division Grant Proposal Process

“The Institute for Humanities Research (IHR) is where our faculty and students work together to strengthen the core of the university by engaging in collaborative research projects, developing grant proposals, and hosting conferences, lectures, and other events. From New Orleans landscapes to the modern Chinese frontier; from Marco Polo to early American religious radicalism; from philosophy in a multicultural context to oral history in the digital age, the IHR has supported research on a stunning range of topics.”

Nathaniel Deutsch, Professor of History at UC Santa Cruz

Director of the Institute for Humanities Research and Co-Director of the Center for Jewish Studies
